According to the Black Sea Commission’s decision, Romania was elected as host country for the Second Operational Black Sea Delta Regional Exercise.
Having as main objectives to enhance the co-operation between Search and Rescue services of participating Black Sea States, in accordance with the Agreement on co-operation regarding maritime search and rescue services among Black Sea coastal states (Ankara Agreement) as well as to test the co-operation under the Protocol on cooperation in combating pollution of the Black Sea by oil and other harmful substances in emergency situations to the 1992 Convention on the protection of the Black Sea against pollution (The Bucharest Convention), the exercise will be developed by Romania in close cooperation with Black Sea Commission and with the participation of Bulgaria, Georgia, Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine.
The Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure through the Romanian Naval Authority considers this regional exercise to be an opportune event taking into consideration the need of continuously ensuring a better preservation of the marine environment and reducing the effects of major spills by developing a consistent pollution prevention policy and coordinated response process for the management of major spill events.
The exercise is scheduled to take place on 26th of August 2009, in the surroundings of Midia port, hosted by The ROMPETROL GROUP through ROMPETROL Rafinery and Midia Marine Terminal.
