Main tasks:

• coordinates and surveys the safety of navigation in ports and on the navigable waterways and performs naval traffic control;
• controls and coordinates the assistance, search and rescue activities and leads the investigation in case of navigation events on inland waterways and Romanian ports;
• establishes the necessity of installation or removal of navigation signals, disposes the signalling devices in national waters and controls their functioning;
• coordinates and controls the activities for preventing, fighting and limiting the effects of water pollution by ships sailing within the area of jurisdiction;
• issues notices to seafarers in order to set navigation rules;
• authorises firms performing shipment activities;
• coordinates and controls the arrivals/departures of ships;
• registers and keeps the record of ships flying the Romanian flag and ships under construction.

• naval traffic surveillance at the entrance/departure in/from ports/channels.
