Jurisdiction area:

• On Danube from Mm 64 – right bank and from Mm 72,5 to km 285 – both banks; Macin Branch, Bala Branch, Borcea Branch until the km 68
• Both banks of the Siret river
• Right bank of Prut river
• Lakes and inland waterways on Galati, Braila, Buzau, Ialomita, Vrancea, Covasna, Iasi, Harghita, Bacau, Vaslui, Suceava, Neamt and Botosani.

Main tasks:

• coordinates and surveys the shipment activities in its jurisdiction area;
• coordinates and surveys the safety of navigation in ports and on the navigable waterways and performs naval traffic control;
• controls and coordinates the assistance, search and rescue activities and leads the investigation in case of navigation events in its area of jurisdiction;
• coordinates and controls the activities of preventing, fighting and limiting the effects of water pollution by ships sailing within the area of jurisdiction of all Galatzi’s Harbour Master’s Office territorial operative bodies;
• settles the establishment or removal of the navigation signals, disposes the position of signalling devices in the national navigable waters and controls their operation;
• approves the works performed in inland waterways from its area of jurisdiction;
• issues notice to seafarers in order to regulate the navigation;
• verifies and surveys the firms which perform shipment activities;
• surveys the compliance with ISPS Code.

• operations regarding the ship registration;
• transcription, transmission or extinction of the real rights on ships;
• authorizes the firms which perform shipment activities
• issues of the safe manning certificate;
• naval traffic surveillance for inland harbours from its jurisdiction area;
• coordinates and controls the arrivals/departures of ships;
• issues the authorizations for repairs, docking and launching of the ships;
• organizes the exams sessions regarding the certificates for pleasure craft skippers
• issues the documents for inland waterways personnel.
